BB: Towson Takes Series Opener From Hofstra

Hempstead, NY - Towson strung together eight consecutive hits in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to break open a 4-2 game on the way to a 10-2 win over Hofstra in the opening game of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series at University Field.

Towson improved to 11-15 overall and 1-3 in the CAA with the win. Hofstra dropped to 7-20 overall and 1-3 in league play with the loss.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on a two-run home run from Richard Miller. The Pride would cut the deficit in half in the third as Vinny Costello scored on a fielder's choice ground out from Steven Foster.

Leading 4-2 in the sixth, the Tigers used a one-out double and seven singles to take a 10-2 lead. Cuinn Mullins had a two-run single in the inning.

Hofstra starter Teddy Cillis fell to 0-5 on the season after allowing four runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Seamus Brazill and Michael James did keep Towson off the board over the final 2 2/3 innings.

Dean Stramara (2-3) went eight innings for the Tigers and allowed two runs on six hits. He walked one and struck out six before Alex Cuas pitched the ninth inning.

Every Towson starter had at least one hit in a 19-hit afternoon. Miller collected three hits on the day and scored three runs. Billy Lenox also had three hits.

???????Mikey Riesner had two of Hofstra's seven hits and scored a run.

The series continues Saturday with a 1 p.m. start.

-Cillis struck out six batters in his 4 1/3 innings but threw 98 pitches
-Vito Friscia's on-base streak reached 11 games with a sixth inning single
