Brookline, MA - Cam Hanley's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Northeastern a 5-4 win over Hofstra Saturday afternoon at Friedman Diamond. Grant Fanneron's two-run, two-out pinch hit home run in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at four and forced extra innings.
Northeastern improved to 22-17 overall with its sixth straight win. The Huskies remain in first place in the Colonial Athletic Association with an 11-3 record. Hofstra dropped to 10-30 overall and 3-11 in the CAA with the loss.
Hofstra took a 4-2 lead in the seventh inning on a solo home run from
Vito Friscia and a sacrifice fly from
Chris Hardardt.
John Ryan came on in relief of starter
John Rooney in the bottom of the inning and kept the Huskies at bay until running into trouble with two outs in the ninth.
Scott Holzwasser got the Northeastern rally started with a single and Fanneron took a 2-1 pitch from Ryan and hit it over the right field fence to tie the score.
In the 10th the Huskies hit three consecutive singles off Ryan to take the win. Ryan fell to 1-3 on the season after allowing three runs on six hits in three-plus innings. Rooney had another solid start for the Pride, allowing two runs on five hits in six innings with 10 strikeouts. The 10-strikeout performance was Rooney's second consecutive start with double digit punch outs.
Andrew Misiaszek (2-2) got the win for Northeastern after pitching a perfect 10th inning.
David Leiderman had three hits and an RBI for the Pride.
The teams meet again in the series finale Sunday at 1 p.m.
