SB: Hofstra Treks To Binghamton For Nonconference Doubleheader

Vestal, N.Y. – A pair of win streaks will be on the line Tuesday when Hofstra Softball and Binghamton square off for a doubleheader at Bearcats Sports Complex at 3 p.m. The Pride comes into the matchup riding a seven-game win streak, while Binghamton has won its last five.

The games will be available via live stats and live video, with links on this page and the Hofstra Softball schedule page.

The Pride (21-17, 9-4 Colonial Athletic Association) picked up a doubleheader sweep of Elon on Sunday, shutting out the Phoenix in both games. Freshman pitcher Sarah Cornell threw her first career no-hitter in Game 1, striking out nine for a 3-0 victory. After the Pride honored its graduating class, senior Jessica Peslak threw four scoreless innings in Game 2 to combine with freshman Alyssa Irons for the shutout in an 8-0 five-inning win.

Junior Sarah Edwards was 3-for-4 through Sunday's two games, hitting a two-run homer, her first long ball in a Hofstra jersey, in Game 1. Classmates Megan Patierno and Nikki Michalowski also finished with three hits on Sunday, with Patierno racking up three RBIs and Michalowski scoring three runs.

Binghamton (18-19, 8-2 America East) took a three-game sweep at conference opponent Hartford this weekend after topping Buffalo in both games of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Bearcats have four players hitting over .300, led by Jessica Rutherford's .393 average. Kate Richard tops the team with eight home runs and 39 RBIs.

In the circle, Binghamton primarily uses a three-pitcher rotation with Rozlyn Price seeing the most work with 89.2 innings pitched. She holds a 6-8 record and 4.45 ERA. Rayn Gibson leads the staff with 47 strikeouts and a 7-5 record, while Shelby Donhauser holds the staff's best ERA at 3.64.

Hofstra and Binghamton have met just twice before, with the Pride winning both, including a 14-6 victory on Feb. 18 at the Michele Smith National Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitational.
