BB: Hofstra Snaps Losing Streak With 8-2 Win Over Manhattan

Wappingers Falls, NY - Brad Witkowski had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs to help Hofstra pick up an 8-2 win over Manhattan at Dutchess Stadium Tuesday night. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Pride.

Hofstra moved to 9-25 with the win while the Jaspers slipped to 9-24 with the loss.

Hofstra took a 2-0 lead in the first after David Leiderman's two-run double. Vito Friscia extended the lead to 3-0 with a third inning sacrifice fly. WItkowski's home run in the fifth extended the lead to 5-0. Tom Archer added a RBI single in the sixth and Vinnie Costello delivered a two-run double in the seventh to close out the Pride's scoring.

Manhattan got on the board in the eighth inning, scoring two unearned runs. Fabian Pena drove in the runs with a double.

Five Hofstra pitchers limited the Jaspers to six hits. Chris Weiss made the start and allowed one hit in two innings, while striking out two, to improve to 3-2 on the season. Michael James allowed two hits in his two innings of work, while Jorge Marrero allowed a hit in his two innings. John Ryan pitched a perfect seventh and Matt Weissheier closed out the game with two innings, allowing two hits and two unearned runs with three strikeouts.

Matt Jones (1-1) took the loss for Manhattan, allowing five runs on four hits in five innings.

In addition to Witkowski, Archer added two hits and Friscia scored two runs.

Hofstra is back in action this weekend when it hosts UNCW in a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series that begins Friday at 3 p.m.
