Hempstead, NY - Hofstra and Fairfield combined for 28 runs and 32 hits, but the Stags hit five home runs including three by Mitch Williams to post a 17-11victory over the Pride Tuesday at University Field.

Despite Williams' three home runs and eight RBIs, Hofstra trailed 13-11 in the top of the ninth before Mac Crispino put the game out of reach with a grand slam, the last of Fairfield's 19 hits and five home runs on the day.

After falling behind by five in the top of the first, the Pride rallied for four runs in the bottom of the first and then tied the score in the second. But the Stags went ahead for good in the third as Williams hit his second home run of the day, a two-run shot to right that made it a 7-5 game. The Pride would eventually trail by eight, 13-5,before scoring four runs in the sixth.
Steven Foster had a two-run single in the inning while
Vito Friscia and
Mikey Riesner added RBIs.

Hofstra would get within two, 13-11, in the eighth as Foster singled and went to third on a double from
David Leiderman. Friscia followed with a sacrifice fly and
Brad Witkowski later delivered an RBI double. But that was as close as the Pride would get.

In the Fairfield ninth, the Stags loaded the bases on a walk, a single and a hit batter. Hofstra pitcher
Chris Weiss got a fly out before Crispino hit his first home run of the season.

James Beasley, the second of Hofstra's six pitchers, took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits in two innings. Beasley fell to 1-1 on the season.

Ryan O'Connor (1-1) got the win in relief for the Stags. He allowed three runs on three hits in three innings of work.

Foster finished the day 4-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Friscia had two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Leiderman had the double and scored two runs, while Riesner had a single and two RBIs on the day.

Drew Arciuolo was 4-5 with three runs for the Stags, while Crispino had three hits on the day to go along with his four RBIs and two runs scored. Dan Hopkins also homered for the Stags.

Hofstra returns to action Friday when it opens a three-game series at Delaware.

-Foster's four-hit game was the second of his career.
-Friscia extended his hitting streak to five games and his on-base streak to 14 games.
-The five home runs allowed were a season high for Hofstra pitching.
