WLAX: Hofstra Wins Fourth Straight With 10-8 Win At Columbia

New York, NY – Drew Shapiro had a career-best four goals, Becky Conto added three goals and an assist and Maddie Fields made a career-high 15 saves as Hofstra extended its win streak to four games with a 10-8 victory at Columbia Saturday night at Kraft Field.

Hofstra improved to 6-3 on the season while the Lions dropped to 6-5 overall.

The Pride raced out to a 5-1 lead 18:25 into the contest with Shapiro (3) and Conto (2) accounting for the Hofstra goals. Conto opened the scoring 2:14 into the game with a man down goal from Lexi Lenaghan and Shapiro followed 2:42 later with an unassisted tally.

Taylor Quinn cut the deficit in half with her 33rd goal of the year with 23:55 on the clock, but Shapiro scored back-to-back goals with 21:59 and 19:32 remaining to put Hofstra back up by a 4-1 score. Conto made it 5-1 with 11:35 remaining when she scored off a pass from Alyssa Parrella.

Columbia scored two quick goals to make it 5-3 with 7:18 to play before Alexa Mattera scored from Parrella with 5:36 to go to make it 6-3 in favor of the Pride and close out the first half scoring.

Mattera netted her second goal of the game 1:08 into the second half and, following a Columbia goal from Caroline Joy, Conto and Shapiro found the back of the net to make it a 9-4 game with 19:45 to go.

Columbia's Lindsey Ewertsen and Lenaghan exchanged scores to make it 10-5 with 12:04 to play. The score would stay that way until the Lions ran off three straight goals in the final 3:05, including two in the final 43 seconds to get within the final margin.

Fields 15 saves topped her previous best of 11 set most recently against Johns Hopkins. She also added a team-high four ground balls. Mattera had two ground balls to go along with her pair of goals, while Parrella tallied three assists, two ground balls and four draw controls.

Quinn had a team-high three goals for Columbia, while Kelsey Gedin made six saves in a losing effort.

Hofstra will be back in action April 7 when it opens Colonial Athletic Association play at Drexel.

-Hofstra is now 2-0 in the all-time series with Columbia
-Hofstra's four-game win streak is the longest since winning five in a row from April 3-17, 2015
-Shapiro had scored three goals on four occasions this season
