BB: Hofstra Rallies, But Falls To Charleston Southern In 11

Charleston, SC - Hofstra erased a 7-3 deficit with four runs over the seventh and eighth innings, but Charleston Southern scored an unearned run in the 11th to take an 8-7 victory Sunday and complete a three-game sweep over the Pride at CSU Ballpark.

Hofstra slipped to 2-8 on the season and lost for the fourth consecutive game. The Buccaneers improved to 8-2.

Hofstra took a 3-0 lead in the first as Mikey Riesner had an RBI single and Parker Quinn drove in the first two runs of his career with his first career hit, a single to left. But Charleston Southern responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Buccaneers had seven hits in the inning and took advantage of a Pride error as well. Mike Sconzo drove in a pair of runs with a two-run home run off starter Teddy Cillis.

The score remained that way until the seventh as Hofstra got strong efforts out of the pen. After Cillis was removed with two outs in the first, Chris Weiss went 3 1/3 innings without allowing a run. He was followed by Gjon Ljucovic, Seamus Brazill and John Beasley, who each threw one inning. John Ryan (0-2), who took the loss, also pitched well as he allowed an unearned run on three hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Hofstra pushed a run across in the seventh on a leadoff home run from Vinny Costello to make it a 7-4 game. The Pride then loaded the bases in the eighth and got a run on a walk before Costello drove in the tying runs with a two-run double.

Both teams left runners on in the ninth and 10th innings before the Buccaneers capitalized in the 11th. Chris Singleton walked with one out and moved to second on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Jason Miller then came through with a single to center that scored the winning run.

Tyler Weekley (1-0) threw three scoreless innings to earn the win for Charleston Southern. Miller (3), Singleton (2), Kyle Vesnesky (2) and Nate Blanchard (2) each had multi-hit games for the Buccaneers.

Costello, Riesner and Nick Bottari each had two hits for the Pride.

Hofstra is back in action Wednesday when it hosts NYIT at 3 p.m. in the Pride's home opener.
