BB: Hofstra Swept By Charleston Southern

Charleston, SC -  Charleston Southern scored seven runs over the final three inning of game one to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 9-3 win and then used a three-run seventh inning in game two to break a 1-1 tie as the Buccaneers posted a 4-1 win in game two to complete a doubleheader sweep Saturday evening at CSU Ballpark.

Hofstra fell to 2-7 with the losses, while Charleston Southern upped its record to 7-2.

In the opener, Hofstra took a 3-2 lead in the fourth as Vito Friscia singled to lead off the inning and took second on an error. Two outs later, Mikey Riesner singled to left to drive in Friscia with the tie-breaking run.

The Pride would hold the lead until the sixth when the Buccaneers struck for two unearned runs off John Rooney (1-2). Brandon Gragilla had a RBI triple to tie the game and Cole German drove in the go ahead run with a single. Charleston Southern added a run in the seventh and four in the eighth to put the game out of reach.

In game two, Rob Weissheier drove in the Pride's run with a second inning sacrifice fly and foster added two hits, but Charleston Southern tied the score in the fourth on a bases loaded walk and then scored three times with one hit in the seventh. The Buccaneers put runners on second and third behind a hit batter and a double. The go ahead run scored on an infield out and after an intentional walk put runners on first and second to set up a double play, the Pride got the ground ball they wanted. But an error ensued on the play allowing the second run to score and the final tally would come in on a wild pitch.
