MTEN: Connecticut Gets Past Hofstra With 4-3 Win

East Hartford, CT - Hofstra was edged out by Connecticut, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the East Hartford Tennis Club. The Huskies notched their second-straight win and improved to 7-8 on the season with the win, while the Pride dropped to 5-10 with the loss.

The Huskies opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Connecticut extended the lead to 3-0 with wins by Arnaud Valentin and Jack McLister at No.5 and No. 6, respectively. Valentin defeated David Schrott (6-1, 6-3) while McLister won over Nick Silvestri, 6-1, 6-3.

Hofstra got within one, 3-2, following wins at No.2 and No.3. Niko Vulinovich downed Parker Goldstein, 6-2, 6-4 at the second flight, and Jan Leithner defeated Jacob Appleton at No. 3, 7-5 and 7-5. But Connecticut clinched with Chris Toner's win over Marcus Smith at the top flight. Smith took the first set, 6-1, but came up on the short end in the second and third sets (5-7 and 4-6). Coco Haener did pick up another win for Hofstra with a three-set win over Justin Warren at No. 4.

Hofstra returns to action Saturday at Delaware.
