Alyssa Parrella had seven points (2G, 5A) and senior
Becky Conto had five points (4G, 1A) to lead the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team to a dominating 21-3 victory over Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
The 21 goals were the most for Hofstra since a 23-7 victory over George Mason on April 8, 2012. In addition it marked the fewest goals Hofstra has allowed since a 9-3 victory over Marist on March 7, 2014.
The win was Hofstra's third straight and improves the Pride's record to 5-3 this season. Central Connecticut State falls to 1-7.
Sophomore
Lexi Lenaghan opened up the scoring at the 28:22 mark with an unassisted tally to start an early onslaught for the Pride.
Hofstra would score the first 11 goals of the game as Conto tallied a hat trick in the first 14 minutes of the game. The Pride had five different goal scorers during the game-opening run.
After Marissa Soto got the Blue Devils on the board with 13:38 left in the first half, the Pride would add four more goals in the half to lead 15-1 at the break.
The second half would see the Pride get goals from a multitude of players, including the first goals of the season for sophomore
Kaitlyn Shanahan, freshman
Mary Kate Gerety, junior
Samantha Torrico and junior
Zoe Gomez.
Parrella added six draw controls in the game, while freshman
Alexa Mattera posted four ground balls, three draw controls and two points (1G, 1A). Senior
Morgan Knox and junior
Drew Shapiro each had three goals for Hofstra, while Shapiro and junior
Amanda Seekamp each had two caused turnovers.
Soto had two goals and two draw controls for Central Connecticut State, while Courtney McPartland had three ground balls and one caused turnover.
Sophomore
Maddie Fields earned the win after making saves. Senior
Alexis Greene saw her playing time of the season and made one save in the second stanza.
Hofstra returns to action when it heads into New York City to face Columbia on April 1 at 7 p.m.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 2-0 all-time against Central Connecticut State. The first-ever meeting between the schools took place in 2014.
- The five assists by Parrella marked a new season-high for the freshman.
- Conto's five points and four goals both tied her career-highs, which were tied or established on Tuesday at New Hampshire.
- Knox tied her career-high in goals.
- Hofstra honored the 1996 Women's Lacrosse team at halftime on alumnae day. The 1996 squad captured the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) title.
