BB: Hofstra Rallies To Defeat NYIT

Old Westbury, NY - Steven Foster's two-run home run in the eighth inning gave Hofstra a 6-5 lead that it would not relinquish as the Pride rallied to defeat NYIT at Lorenzo Memorial Field Tuesday evening.

Hofstra, which swept the season series from the Bears, improved to 5-14 on the season and snapped a five game losing streak. NYIT dropped to 2-14.

Hofstra wasted little time in getting on the board as Foster led off with a single and came all the way around to score on a throwing error on the pitcher following Tom Archer's sacrifice bunt attempt.

The Bears took the lead in the second thanks to a two-run home run from Robert Fiato. But the lead was short-lived as Teddy Cillis ripped a two-run double in the third that scored David Leiderman and Nick Bottari, who had each singled, for a 3-2 Pride advantage.

The Bears would tie the game in the fifth and then go ahead in the sixth on a second home run from Fiato to lead off the inning. Jake Lebel followed with a double and came around to score on a single from Matt DeAngelis for a 5-3 lead.

The Pride got a run back in the seventh when David Leiderman doubled, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on Mikey Riesner's single up the middle.

NYIT went to the bullpen to start the eighth and Elias Martinez retired the first two batters on two pitches. He then hit Sean Rausch with a pitch and Foster followed with his second home run of the year, a two-run shot to right field.

John Ryan (1-2) pitched three perfect innings of relief to earn his first collegiate win, striking out two batters.

Martinez (0-4) took the loss for the Bears, allowing one hit and two runs in his inning of work.

Foster, Leiderman and Bottari each had two hits for the Pride. Foster and Leiderman each scored a pair of runs as well.

Hofstra is back in action this Friday through Sunday at College of Charleston in a Colonial Athletic Association series.
