BB: Hofstra Drops 3-1 Decision To Albany

Salem, VA - John Rooney and Chris Weiss combined to allow just four hits, but Albany was able to put three runs on the board while the Pride managed just one in a 3-1 loss Sunday at Salem Memorial Ballpark.

Hofstra fell to 4-14 on the year with the loss. Albany moved to 7-5.

Albany scored first, in the top of the second inning, as Rooney issued four consecutive two-out walks. The Great Danes added another run in the top of the sixth as Marc Wangenstein hit an RBI triple that scored Evan Harasta for a 2-0 lead.

Hofstra scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the lead in half. Steven Foster doubled and moved to third on a single from Sean Rausch. Mikey Riesner then plated Foster with a squeeze bunt.

Albany added an insurance run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly from Nick Kondo.

Albany starter Kenny McLean went 6 2/3 innings, giving up one run on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Dominic Savino would come on in the ninth and earn his second save of the weekend after facing one batter in the bottom of the ninth with runners on first and second.

Rooney struck out seven batters and allowed two runs on three hits in six innings of work. Chris Weiss allowed a run and a hit over the final three innings.

The Pride are scheduled to play at NYIT on Tuesday.
