WLAX: Hofstra Routs Quinnipiac For Third Win

Hempstead, NY – Junior Drew Shapiro had a career-high six points on three goals and three assists, while freshman Alyssa Parrella posted season-highs of six ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers to go along with five goals and one assist to lead the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team to a dominating 14-4 victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium. 

Hofstra evens its record at 3-3 with the victory, while Quinnipiac falls to 1-6 with its sixth straight loss. 

The Pride jumped out to an early 4-0 lead just 15 minutes into the contest as Parrella had a pair of goals and senior Becky Conto and junior Carlee Ancona added tallies to push Hofstra to the early advantage. 

After Quinnipiac closed the gap to two, 4-2, with back-to-back goals from Ashley Bobinski, the Pride would take a commanding 8-2 lead with another 4-0 run. Shapiro got on the board with two straight to open the run and Conto and sophomore Lexi Lenaghan closed the run for the Pride. 

Parrella would score the final goal of the first half and the first goal of the second stanza to make it 10-3 in favor of Hofstra. The Bobcats ended the Pride run with an unassisted tally from Loren Antonacci before Hofstra completed the dominating victory with four unanswered goals to end the contest. 

Four different goal scorers would find the net in the end of game run as Shapiro, Ancona, Parrella and Lenaghan scored for the Pride. 

Ancona and Conto both finished with two goals, while senior Morgan Knox added two assists. Sophomore Maddie Fields made four saves to earn the win for Hofstra and junior Shea McAvoy posted three ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Bobinski had three points on two goals and one assist for Quinnipiac. Kyle Larkin tallied 19 saves and five ground balls for the Bobcats, which also got three ground balls and two caused turnovers from Kiera Kelly.  

Today's game marked the end of the Pride's three-game home stand as Hofstra will head north to New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats at 4 p.m. on March 21. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 5-0 all-time against Quinnipiac. 
- Shapiro's previous career-high of four points came against Wagner earlier this season. 
- With the win, Hofstra matches its win total from the 2016 campaign. 
- Hofstra allowed a season-low four goals and the fewest since defeating Marist, 9-3, on March 7, 2014.
