BB: Troy Pulls Away From Hofstra Late In Series Finale

Troy, AL - Mikey Riesner went 2-4 with three RBIs but Troy broke used a six-run seventh to pull away from Hofstra in a 16-7 victory. The Trojans moved to 9-6 on the season with the win, while Hofstra slipped to 4-11.

Troy took a 1-0 lead in the second, scoring an unearned run off of Pride starter Brad Witkowski (0-1). But Hofstra tied the game in the top of the third as Tom Archer doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Steven Foster and scored on a single from Riesner.

But the tie was short-lived as the Trojans put up eight runs in the bottom of the third. Two singles and a sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third and Brandon Lockridge broke the tie with a sacrifice fly. Trevor Davis doubled in another run for a 3-1 lead and Justin Friend followed with an RBI single for a 4-1 advantage. A walk and an infield single loaded the bases and three consecutive walks added three more runs for a 7-1 Troy lead. Drew Frederic reached on an infield single to drive in the eighth run and a throwing error on the play enabled another run to score for a 9-1 lead.  

The Pride fought back with a six-run fourth to get back to within two, 9-7. Hofstra loaded the bases and scored runs on an error and a fielder's choice to make it 9-3. After a walk loaded the bases again, Riesner came through with a two-run single to make it 9-5. Teddy Cillis then had an RBI single and Riesner later come in on a wild pitch with the final run of the inning.  

Troy added a run in the fourth and then put six more on the board in the seventh as the Trojans loaded the bases with three consecutive hit batters to start the inning. A wild pitch scored one run, then Friend had a two-run single and Binder added a two-run double. Mason Rogers closed out the scoring with an RBI double of his own.

Witkowski took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits in 2 2/3 innings. Riesner and Cillis each had two hits to pace the Pride offense.

Cory Childress (1-2) got the win after pitching 4 2/3 innings of hitless relief.

Hofstra is scheduled to play Fairleigh Dickinson at home on Wednesday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
