WLAX: Hofstra Falls To #19 Johns Hopkins

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 12-4 decision to #19 Johns Hopkins as the Blue Jays jumped out to a 6-1 halftime lead en route to the victory on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

The loss drops Hofstra's record to 2-3 this season as the Pride has dropped its last three contests, including its last two to nationally-ranked opponents. Johns Hopkins improved to 7-1 with its fourth consecutive victory.

Johns Hopkins scored the first five goals of the game as Lexi Souder opened the scoring at the 28:23 mark for the Blue Jays and Miranda Ibello scored twice in the first 14 minutes to help JHU to the early lead.

Freshman Alyssa Parrella would get Hofstra on the board with 8:18 left in the opening stanza on a free-positon shot before Nicole DeMase gave Hopkins the 6-1 halftime lead with a goal with 1:24 left in first half.

After the visitors push their advantage to 8-1 early in the second half, Parrella scored her second of the game and 17th of the season with 28:02 left in regulation to make it an 8-2 game.

Hofstra would close the scoring in the game as junior Carlee Ancona scored off a free-position shot and junior Drew Shapiro added an unassisted tally with 86 seconds left to account for the final score.

Ancona and freshman Darcie Smith led Hofstra with three ground balls, while Shapiro and freshman Alexa Mattera each posted two draw controls in the contest. Ancona led the Pride with three caused turnovers.

Sophomore Maddie Fields tied her career-high with 11 saves in the game, while Caroline Federico posted six saves for the Blue Jays to earn the win.

DeMase (3G, 2A) and Maggie Schneidereith (2 G, 3 A) each led Johns Hopkins with five points. Claudia Flister had four ground balls for JHU, while Souder posted four draw controls and Maddie Bodden notched three caused turnovers.
Hofstra is back in action when it returns to James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, March 18 to host Quinnipiac at 12 p.m. The game is part of a doubleheader with the Pride Men's Lacrosse team, which hosts Providence at 3 p.m.
