BB: Hofstra Falls To Troy In Series Opener

Troy, Alabama - Troy manufactured a run in the fifth inning and added two more in the seventh and one in the eighth as the Trojans picked up a 4-0 win over the Pride Friday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

Hofstra slipped to 3-9 on the season with the loss, while Troy improved to 7-5.

Troy broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning as Drew Frederic drew a leadoff walk and went to third on a two-base throwing error on Teddy Cillis following a pickoff attempt. After a strikeout, Brandon Lockridge grounded out to second to drive in the run.

Frederic keyed another rally in the seventh with an infield single to start the frame. Following a passed ball, Steven Whitaker doubled to the gap in right center to make it a 2-0 game. Whitaker would move to third on an infield out and then came in to score on Trevor Davis' infield single.

The Trojans were able to push another run across in the eighth as Mark Sanders was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He stole second and third and came in on a single off the bat of Justin Friend.

Cillis (0-2), who was making his third start in as many games, allowed just two hits over five innings. He walked four batters and struck out five. John Ryan pitched two innings and allowed two runs, while Seamus Brazill allowed a run on a hit in the eighth.

Daren Osby (3-1) picked up the win for the Trojans, allowing three hits and three walks with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. Marc Skinner pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for his third save. He allowed two hits and struck out five batters.

Davis had two hits to lead the Troy offense and also walked twice. Frederic had a hit and scored two runs.

Steven Foster, Sean Rausch, David Leiderman, Mikey Riesner and Vinnie Costello (double) each had hits for the Pride.

The teams continue the series Saturday with a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m. (CST).

Notes:
-Foster extended his hitting streak to six games.
-Cillis has been the starting pitcher in all three games this week as he lasted just 2/3 of an inning last Sunday at Charleston Southern, went one scheduled inning Wednesday versus NYIT and then started tonight's opener.
