Hempstead, NY – On the night in which he was named to the 2017 Tewaaraton Award Watch List, Hofstra senior
Josh Byrne tallied a career-high seven goals and added two assists to lead the Pride to a 20-4 non-conference victory over the Highlanders of the New Jersey Institute of Technology at James M. Shuart Stadium Tuesday night.
Hofstra, which is receiving votes in both the coaches and media polls this week, improved to 3-0 on the season. The Highlanders of NJIT fall to 0-4 on the year.
Eleven Hofstra players tallied goals and eight had assists as the Pride recorded a season-high 14 assists in the contest. The 20 goals are the most by a Hofstra team since a 20-3 victory over Sacred Heart in 2008.
Byrne, who posted career-highs with seven goals and nine points, now has 13 goals and seven assists in three games this season. His previous highs were five goals against Princeton in 2016 and seven points against NJIT last season. Freshman
Ryan Tierney added three goals and two assists, equaling season-bests in goals and assists and a new high for points with five. Junior

Jack Concannon made six saves and allowed two goals in the Pride cage while playing the first three quarters before being relieved by freshman
Robert Casey, who made one save.
The Highlanders were led by sophomore Ryan Darrow with a goal and two assists while senior Ryan Callaghan and sophomores Jacob Sieber and Aaron Forster each added one goal. Two NJIT goalies split the time in the cage with junior Nick Marzullo playing the first half and making five saves while sophomore Cameron Cronk made five saves in the second half.
Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one quarter as Byrne scored his seventh of the year midway through the period and Tierney netted his fifth of the year with 3:40 to play in the quarter. But the floodgates opened in the second quarter as Byrne scored three times and Moser scored twice to lead the Pride onslaught and an 11-2 lead at halftime. The Pride dented the twine three times in the third quarter-with Byrne scoring all three-to open up a 14-2 lead. Hofstra scored the first five goals in the fourth quarter to wrap up their 10-goal run and bump the lead to 19-2.

Dylan Alderman,
Dale Stasco and
Tim Golden each netted their first goals of 2017.
For the game, Hofstra outshot NJIT, 45-21 and picked up 37 ground balls to NJIT's 11.
Hofstra now heads into a road game at Georgetown on Saturday, March 4 at noon.
