BB: Hofstra Falls To Grambling In Bottom of Ninth Inning

Thibodaux, LA - Alexander Felder scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Grambling an 8-7 win over Hofstra at The Mardi Gras Invitational Saturday afternoon. Hofstra had tied the game at seven with a run in the top of the seventh inning.

Hofstra saw its modest two-game win streak halted and fell to 2-5 on the season. Grambling upped its record to 3-4 with the win.

The Pride had taken a 6-4 lead in the top of the sixth, snapping a 4-4 tie with a two-run, two-out rally. Mikey Riesner doubled and went to third on an infield single from Tom Archer. The pair then executed a double steal for the first run and Steven Foster drove home Archer with the second tally. But Grambling would take the lead back with a two-out rally as well. Following consecutive walks, Daniel Barnett tied the game with a double and then came around with the go ahead run on a single from Johan Mojica.

The Pride scratched out a run in the seventh as Nick Bottari doubled and came in to score on Sean Rausch's single. But a double play later in the inning stranded the go ahead run at third.
Felder led off the bottom of the ninth with a single and took second on an error in the outfield. After an infield single and a sacrifice bunt, the Tigers had runners on second and third with one out. Hofstra pitcher John Ryan then struck out Ian Bailey, but the ball got away allowing Felder to score the winning run.

Riesner had three hits and three runs scored for the Pride, while Foster added two hits and two RBIs. Rausch and Vinnie Costello also contributed two hits each.

Ryan (0-1) took the loss after allowing the unearned run on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Hofstra allowed four unearned runs in the game. Daniel Biezer (1-0) pitched three scoreless innings for the Tigers to earn the win.

Hofstra will be off until next Saturday, March 4, when it travels to Charleston Southern for the start of a three-game weekend series.
