Teddy Cillis and
Steven Foster each had two hits, while
Nick Bottari added a solo home run in Hofstra's 5-1 opening day loss to Murray State in the first game of the Tangi Tourism Baseball Classic Friday afternoon.
The Racers (1-0) got a run in the first on a leadoff home run from catcher Kip Moore. Moore would add a second RBI with a double in the third to boost the lead to 2-0. Bottari would cut the deficit in half with a leadoff home run in the top of the sixth, but that would be the only run of the day for the Pride (0-1).
Murray State answered back with three runs in its half of the sixth with Ramsey Scott, Adam Bauer and Jaron Robinson contributing RBI hits.
Cillis went 2-3 on the day with a single and a double. Foster was 2-4 with a single and a double as well.
John Rooney (0-1) started for the Pride and allowed five runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. The sophomore left-hander struck out five batters and walked two.
Trevor McMurray (1-0) went six innings in his college debut, allowing one run on five hits.
Hofstra will be back in action Saturday at 6 p.m. (CST) when it takes on the host Lions of Southeastern Louisiana.
