Philadelphia, Pa. – The Hofstra Women's Basketball team fell, 47-38, to Drexel on Sunday afternoon at Daskalakis Athletic Center.
 
The Pride (6-7, 0-2 Colonial Athletic Association) were led by senior Aleana Leon's 10 points and classmate Ashunae Durant's nine rebounds. Drexel (10-4, 2-0 CAA) had a pair of players finish in double figures, with Sara Woods posting a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Hannah Nihill finishing with 11 points.
 
Hofstra didn't allow a field goal for the first 4:57 of the game, with the Dragons' first three points coming from the free-throw line. Drexel broke a 3-3 deadlock with a 6-0 run, which was halted by a Boogie Brozoski three-pointer to cut the deficit to 9-6, though Drexel would never again relinquish the lead. Hofstra held the Dragons off the board for the final two minutes of the quarter.
 
Drexel used a 10-2 run in the first half of the second frame to take a 19-8 lead. Junior Sica Cuzic halted a scoreless drought for the Pride, but the Dragons closed the half with a 23-12 advantage.
 
Senior Olivia Askin knocked down a right-corner three to shave the deficit to single digits in the third quarter before sophomore Marianne Kalin's layup cut it to 23-17. The teams exchanged baskets, before Drexel was able to push the lead back to nine, but Leon used three free throws and Cuzic knocked down a long-range jumper to make it 31-26. A Drexel layup made it a 33-26 game heading into the fourth.
 
After the Dragons had taken a nine-point lead, Leon dropped a three to bring it to 37-31 with just over five minutes to go. Drexel quickly pushed the advantage to 10 before junior Boogie Brozoski drained a three to cut it to 45-38 with under a minute remaining, but the Dragons hung on for the 47-38 win.
 
Hofstra stays on the road, heading to Charleston on Friday for a 6:30 p.m. conference contest against the Cougars.

-Leon's double-figure performance was her seventh of the season.
-The Pride held both of its CAA opponents this weekend to 55 points or fewer.
-Kalin shot better than 50 percent from the field for the fifth straight game.
