Justin Wright-Foreman poured in 33 points, his second straight game with at least 30 points, and junior
Desure Buie added a career-high 19 points to lead the Hofstra Men's Basketball team to a thrilling 84-81 win over Stony Brook on Tuesday evening at Island Federal Credit Union Arena.
The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improves the Pride's record to 7-3 this season. Stony Brook fell to 4-7 with the loss.
Hofstra fell into an early 14-5 hole before rallying with a 15-4 run to take a 20-18 lead on a basket from senior
Hunter Sabety with 8:52 left before intermission. Wright-Foreman, who had 12 points in the first 20 minutes, had seven points during the Pride run.
The Pride faced a seven-point deficit, 54-47, with just over 13 minutes left before beginning to mount a rally. Trailing, 58-54, with 10:35 left in regulation, Hofstra would score 11 straight points to take a 65-58 lead with less than eight minutes remaining. Buie keyed the run with six points to put the Pride in front. The Seawolves would battle back to knot the score at 77 with 1:58 left before Wright-Foreman put the his final exclamation point on the night as he drained three free throws after getting fouled behind the arc. Stony Brook had one final chance in the final seconds but a three-point attempt at the buzzer was off line.
Sabety finished with nine points and seven rebounds off the bench, while senior
Rokas Gustys added five points and seven rebounds to allow the Pride to hold a 40-30 rebounding advantage in the contest. Jaron Cornish led the Seawolves with 22 points, while Bryan Sekunda added 20.
Hofstra will now take a break for final exams and return to action on Wednesday, December 20 when it "hosts" Manhattan at 7 p.m. That game will take place at Adelphi University due to Hofstra's Commencement at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex that evening. - Hofstra is 21-5 all-time against Stony Brook. It was the Pride's second straight win over the Seawolves after defeating SBU, 96-58, in Hempstead last season.
- Buie's previous career-high of 12 points came against Army West Point earlier this season.
- The 30-point game was the sixth of Wright-Foreman's career and second this season after scoring 30 points at Rider.
