VB: Hofstra Sweeps Northeastern On Road Behind Rucli

Boston, MA – Junior Michela Rucli had 11 kills on 15 attempts with no errors to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a huge three-set sweep of Northeastern on Wednesday evening at Solomon Court. Rucli had a spectacular .733 attack percentage in the match and added a match-high seven blocks.

Hofstra improved to 17-12 overall and 9-6 in Colonial Athletic Association play with its third win in its last four matches. Northeastern, which got 16 kills and eight digs from Amy Underdown, fell to 17-11 and 10-4 in the league with the loss. Set scores were 26-24, 25-19 and 30-28.

Late set runs proved to be the difference for the Pride as Hofstra scored the final two points of the opening stanza, both on kills from junior Nanishka Perez, to lead 1-0 in the match. After capturing an easy six-point win in the second set, Hofstra would have a much more difficult time in the final set as the Pride fought off an incredible five set points to eventually knot the score at 28 on a kill from Rucli. Two errors from the Huskies would end the match as Hofstra picked up an important late season win. Perez added 10 kills and eight digs for the Pride, which also got 30 assists and 10 digs from Luisa Sydlik

Hofstra will close the regular season on Sunday when it travels to James Madison for a 1 p.m. match.
