Harrisonburg, VA – Sophomore
Laura Masciullo had 17 kills and 11 digs for Hofstra, but the Pride dropped a tough five-set decision to James Madison on Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale for both squads. Set scores were 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 19-25 and 15-8.
Hofstra falls to 17-13 overall and 9-7 in Colonial Athletic Association play. James Madison improved to 20-5 and 11-5 in the league.
The Pride would need to rally to send the match to a fifth set as the Dukes won the second and third stanzas to take the lead in the match. Hofstra would not be seriously challenged in the fourth set as they closed the set with a 5-1 run to earn a six-point win. The fifth set would be knotted at three before JMU used a 4-1 run to take the lead for good en route to the narrow victory. Senior
Doris Bogoje tallied a career-best 15 kills in the game and added seven blocks. Bryn Recker had 19 kills, 11 digs, five blocks and three service aces for James Madison.
Hofstra returns to action next week at the Colonial Athletic Association Championship. The tournament starts on Thursday at JMU and seedings and pairings will be announced later today.
