Las Vegas, Nev. – The Hofstra Women's Basketball team battled to a 69-66 win over Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Cox Pavilion in the consolation game of the Lady Rebel Round-Up hosted by UNLV.
 
Hofstra (3-3) was led by senior Aleana Leon's 19 points, her third straight game in double figures. Classmate Ashunae Durant dropped 18, including going 10-for-12 from the free throw line, while sophomore E'Lexus Davis picked up 13.
 
Wake Forest (2-4) had four players finish in double figures, led by Ariel Stephenson's 13. Alex Sharp had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds, while Amber Campbell also picked up 10 and Gina Conti finished with 11.
 
The Pride jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the Demon Deacons answered with five points from Conti. A pair of made free throws from Davis took the lead back for Hofstra, but Wake Forest pushed ahead with an 8-3 run to close the quarter with a 13-9 advantage.
 
Durant sunk 3-of-4 free throws  early in the second quarter to shave the deficit to just one before a layup from junior Sica Cuzic gave the Pride a 14-13 lead. After the Pride had pushed its lead to four on two occasions, the Demon Deacons knotted score at 19. The teams continued to trade baskets for the remainder of the stanza, with Wake Forest taking a narrow 27-26 lead into the break.
 
The Demon Deacons pushed the lead to 35-30 before Durant knocked down a jumper to bring the Pride back within three. After Wake Forest had extended its advantage to six for the second time at 42-36, senior Aleana Leon knocked down back-to-back threes to knot the score at 42. The Demon Deacons pulled back ahead with a 46-43 lead at the end of the third.
 
A layup from Leon shaved the deficit back to one before Davis hit a right-corner three to take the lead back for Hofstra. The Pride pulled ahead by seven, before Wake Forest was able to cut it back to three, but another clutch Leon layup put the Hofstra advantage back at seven. A quick 7-0 run from Wake Forest cut the margin back to one. Durant hit four free throws in the waning moments to help the Pride hold on for the 69-66 win.
 
Hofstra heads back to the east coast, travelling to Sacred Heart on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.
 
Notes:
-Hofstra's win over Wake Forest is its first over the Demon Deacons and just its third over a current member of the ACC. The Pride's last victory over an ACC team came as 65-57 win over Virginia in the third round of the 2016 WNIT.
-Leon was named to the Lady Rebel Round-Up All-Tournament Team for her back-to-back double-figure efforts.
-Durant led the Pride with seven rebounds, while Davis picked up six.
