Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Women's Basketball team will host local rival Stony Brook for The Battle of Long Island at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
The first 150 students in attendance will receive "Pride of Long Island" t-shirts. The Resident Advisor who brings the most students to the game will win a pizza party for their floor. As part of Hofstra's sock drive, anyone donating a new pair of socks will receive free admission. The contest is also a Staff Appreciation Game, where Hofstra staff members receive four free tickets, two concession vouches and a "Pride of Long Island" t-shirt.

The Pride (1-0) opened the season with a 71-55 win over UMBC on Sunday. Senior
Ashunae Durant picked up her first double-double of the season, leading the team with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomores
E'Lexus Davis and
Sandra Karsten also scored in double figures, with Davis finishing with 17 and Karsten posting 14, both career highs. Davis also added career bests with eight boards and nine assists.
Stony Brook (1-0) opened its season with a 74-59 victory over Manhattan on Saturday, led by Shania Johnson's 20 points and seven assists. Jerell Matthews also finished in double figures, chipping in 13 points in the victory.
This will be the ninth occurrence of the Battle of Long Island, with Hofstra dominating the all-time series, 7-1. The Pride escaped with a 67-64 victory at Stony Brook last season. Durant led the scoring for Hofstra with 22 points, while
Aleana Leon chipped in 12 and Karsten added five assists.
The Pride will take its first road trip of the season on Saturday, travelling to Hartford for a 2 p.m. contest.
