FH: Hofstra Falls To #25 Monmouth In A Non-Conference Battle

Hempstead, NY –Hofstra senior Carys Swan recorded six saves but the Hawks scored once in the first half and twice in the second as 25th-ranked Monmouth defeated the Pride, 3-0 in a non-conference game at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Pride dropped its second consecutive game to slip to 6-9 on the season while the Hawks of Monmouth improve to 9-3 overall in 2017.

It was a defensive battle in the first half as penalty corners (6) and saves (3) were even but senior Mallory Kusakavitch's goal at the 28:53 mark was the difference as the Hawks took a 1-0 lead at the intermission. The Hawks put on the offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting the Pride, 14-1 and taking seven penalty corners, and added goals by juniors Kelly Hanna and Elyssa Okken in the first 17 minutes of the second half to post the victory. Senior goalie Christen Piersanti made three saves in the Hawks cage.

Hofstra will return to action on Sunday, October 15 when the Pride host the Red Flash of Saint Francis University at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is noon.
