FH: De Wolf And Warfel Lead Hofstra Over Saint Francis

Hempstead, NY – Pride freshman Philine de Wolf scored twice and sophomore Madison Warfel added a goal and an assist to lead Hofstra to a 7-3 victory over the Red Flash of Saint Francis in a non-conference game at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon. Hofstra freshman Frankie O'Brien tied the school record with three assists in the contest.

Hofstra, which snapped a two-game losing skid, improves to 7-9 on the year as they head into their final three Colonial Athletic Association games of the year. Saint Francis, which dropped their third consecutive game, evens its record at 7-7.

The Pride jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first 19 minutes as freshman Jordan Thompson and Philine de Wolf and red-shirt freshman Madison Georgiana scored goals. Saint Francis broke through at the 31:50 on a goal by Celeste Azzari to close the first half scoring. Hofstra's Madison Warfel scored at the 39:51 mark before Brea Seabrook notched the first of her two goals for the Red Flash. But de Wolf added her second of the game and classmate Anne van der Boomen to push the lead to 6-2 with 2:50 to play.

Seabrook for the Red Flash and Madison Sauve for the Pride exchanged goals in the final minutes to move the final score to 7-3. Each team took 19 shots in the contest while Saint Francis had 14 penalty corners to the Pride's 12.

Hofstra returns to action on Sunday, October 22 when the Pride travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a Colonial Athletic Association contest at James Madison University. Game time is noon.
