FH: Hofstra Stumbles At Northeastern In A CAA Clash

Dedham, MA – Hofstra freshman Anne van der Boomen scored her second goal of the year but the Pride allowed five first half goals, including two by junior Laura MacLachlan, as the Huskies of Northeastern posted a key 8-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Hofstra at Dedham Field Friday night.

Hofstra dropped its third game in the last four outings to slip to 6-8 on the year and 1-2 in the CAA. Northeastern, which won its third game in their last four outings, improved to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

After a scoreless first 10 minutes, the Huskies erupted for five goals as senior Jamie Bartucca scored off a penalty corner with MacLachlan assisting at the 10:47 mark. Five minutes later, Bartucca notched her fourth of the season from sophomore Megan Barrett. Junior June Curry-Lindahl scored her seventh of the season on a chip shot at the 22:53 mark.

MacLachlan then notched her second of the game off another penalty corner with graduate-student Ffion Thompson and Bartucca assisting at the 29:48 mark for a 4-0 lead. Freshman Aniek van de Graaf closed out the scoring in the first 35 minutes with her first goal of the year with 2:59 to play in the half. Northeastern outshot the Pride, 11-3 and took six penalty corners to none for Hofstra in the first half.

Curry-Lindahl scored her second of the game just 1:08 into the second half off an assist from Bartucca for a 6-0 advantage.

Hofstra broke the shutout in the 55th minute following a penalty corner freshman Frankie O'Brien passed to freshman Anne van der Boomen, who slid a shot past Northeastern freshman goalie Julia Gluyas (3 saves) to cut the deficit to 6-1.

Barrett and freshman Camille O'Conor then scored for the Huskies in the final 14 minutes to post the final 8-1 score.

Hofstra will return to action on Sunday, October 8 when the Pride host 25th-ranked Monmouth at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
