Hempstead, N.Y. – Sophomore
Luke Brown scored the game's only goal as the Hofstra Men's Soccer team topped Brown, 1-0, on Tuesday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The Pride honored its seven departing seniors before the game, which was the team's regular-season finale.
Hofstra (6-5-6, 3-1-4 Colonial Athletic Association) has now won five of its past six contests heading into the CAA Championships. Brown moved to 8-5-2 on the season with the loss.
The Pride offense came out strong in the first half, getting a number of good looks on goal. Senior
Danny Elliott had Hofstra's first good chance, taking a uncontested blast from about 20 yards out that Brown goalkeeper Joey Cipicchio made a diving save on. Moments later, freshman George O'Malley hit the crossbar before Cippichio made another acrobatic stop on junior
Sean Nealis' rebound chance.
The Pride capitalized on the offensive momentum in the 36th minute, with
Danny Elliott using his footwork to get into the box before the ball came loose to
Luke Brown, who fired into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
Hofstra held off an aggressive push from Brown late in the second half to earn the shutout.
With the regular season in the books, the No. 4-seed Pride returns home on Saturday to host fifth-seeded William & Mary in a CAA quarterfinal at 7 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
