FH: Hofstra Gets Tripped Up By #7 Delaware

Hempstead, NY – Blue Hens junior Greta Nauck tallied two goals and senior Taylor Lister added a goal and an assist to lead the defending national champions and seventh-ranked Delaware to a 6-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over the Hofstra Pride at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Friday afternoon.

Hofstra, which was eliminated from contention of receiving the fourth and final CAA Championship berth with the loss, is now 7-11 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Delaware, which clinched the top seed in the CAA Championship that begins on November 3, improved to 12-4 and 5-0 in the conference.

The Blue Hens scored three times in each half and jumped on the Pride for two goals in the first 8:31. Nauck, an All-American last season, scored her first of the game and 18th of the year just 1:10 into the contest following a Hofstra turnover in the circle. Red-shirt senior Kayla Devlin made it 2-0 on a deflection at the left post for her second of the season. Lister made it 3-0 at the 20:11 mark on a turn-around shot in the circle off a pass from senior Maggie Delp. Hofstra was outshot, 13-1 and had just one penalty corner to the Blue Hens six in the first half.

Hofstra allowed goals to Nauck, junior Lisa Giezerman and freshman Femke Strien in the second half to post their third consecutive victory over the Pride. The Pride was outshot in the contest, 25-3. Hofstra senior goalie Carys Swan made nine saves in the Pride goal.

Hofstra returns to action for their final game of the season on Sunday, October 29 when they host the Dragons of Drexel at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. Game time for the Senior Day contest is 12 p.m.
