Hempstead, NY – The Dragons scored a goal late in the first half and added a second on a penalty stroke early in the second period as Drexel spoiled Hofstra's Senior Day with a 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory in the season finale for both teams at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Pride, who wrapped up Coach
Kathy De Angelis' 20
th season in 2017, finished at 7-12 overall and 1-5 in the CAA. The Dragons also finished 7-12 on the year and 2-4 in conference play. Neither team qualified for next week's four-team CAA Championship as Drexel finished in fifth place and Hofstra finished in sixth.
After a sluggish first half, the Hofstra offense came alive in the second period but, despite several good chances, the Pride couldn't break the Dragon defense and put a shot in past junior goalie Erin Gilchrist (4 saves). But by the early second half, the Pride found themselves down 2-0 after junior Megan Wiest's fifth goal of the season off a pass from freshman Chandler McFeeley at the 25:13 mark and a penalty stroke goal by junior Katie Bagdon just 1:49 into the second half.
Hofstra was outshot 11-1 in the first half but outshot the Dragons, 11-8 in the second half and took seven penalty corners to Drexel's two in the final 35 minutes.
The Pride bid farewell to four starting seniors in pregame ceremonies as defenders
Taylor Mumley,

Savanna Malloy and goalie
