Vestal, N.Y. – A pair of goals in the first 12 minutes of play were all the Hofstra Men's Soccer team needed to take down in-state rival Binghamton, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Bearcats Soccer Complex.
The Pride evened its record at 5-5-6 with one game remaining in the regular season, while non-conference opponent Binghamton dropped to 5-8-3.
Junior
Sean Nealis scored an early goal for Hofstra, with senior
Mani Walcott beating the Bearcats defense and taking a shot, with Nealis tucking the rebound into the open right side of the net in the seventh minute. Senior
Danny Elliott then doubled the Pride's lead to 2-0 just over four minutes later, blasting away a pass from sophomore
Luke Brown.
The Bearcats cut Hofstra's lead in half with a goal from Haris Brkovic, as he beat his defender and went one-on-one with Pride goalkeeper
Alex Ashton. Ashton made the first save, but Brkovic put away his own rebound in the 33rd minute.
Hofstra closes the regular season on Tuesday, hosting Brown for a Senior Day matchup at 7 p.m. at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
Notes:
-Nealis's goal was his first since his freshman season.
-Elliott moved into a tie for the team lead with three goals.
-The Pride avenged a 2-1 loss to Binghamton a year ago, extending its lead in the all-time series with the Bearcats to 3-1.
