Hempstead, N.Y. – The Hofstra Men's Soccer team came back from a 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 overtime victory over UNCW in the Pride's Colonial Athletic Association finale on Saturday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.
With the win, the Pride (4-5-6, 3-1-4 CAA) have clinched a spot in the CAA Tournament. After coming into the game in first place, UNCW dropped its fourth straight contest to fall to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play, dropping to third place.
Sophomore
Luke Brown had a hand in both of the Pride's goals en route to the comeback victory. After the Seahawks opened the scoring in the 61st minute on Phillip Goodrum's rebound goal, Brown took a shot that deflected out to senior
Mani Walcott, who put away the equalizer in the 80th minute to force overtime.
Less than four minutes into overtime, Brown settled a cross from senior
Jon Fraser and tucked away a blast into the upper right corner from about seven yards out to earn the victory for the Pride.
Hofstra has a pair of non-conference games remaining, beginning with a trip to Binghamton on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Notes:
-Brown has four points in his past three games.
-Junior goalkeeper
Alex Ashton made four saves in the victory.
-The Pride advanced to the CAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season and finished with just one conference loss for the second straight year.
