Hempstead, NY – Sophomore
Laura Masciullo had 14 kills and 12 digs for her fifth double-double of the season for the Hofstra Volleyball team, but Northeastern won a tight third set en route to a four-set win over the Pride on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center. Sophomore
Luisa Sydlik posted 34 assists and 13 digs for the Pride, tallying her team-leading sixth double-double this year.
Hofstra slips to 13-9 overall and 5-3 in Colonial Athletic Association play with the loss. Northeastern improves to 15-6 and 8-0 in league action. Set scores were 25-18, 12-25, 26-24 and 25-18 in favor of the Huskies.
Each team dominated a set early on with Northeastern easily wining the first stanza by seven points before Hofstra rebounded and hit at a .400 clip in dominating the Huskies in the second set. The third set proved to be the momentum swing the Huskies would need as they narrowly escaped with a two-point win and would use that to capture the win in the following set. Junior
Nanishka Perez chipped in with six kills and 11 digs for Hofstra. Northeastern was led by Amy Underdown, who had 17 kills and 13 digs.
Hofstra is back in action for the Carolina road trip next week when it travels to Charleston on Friday and UNCW on Sunday. The match against the Cougars starts at 7 p.m., while the Pride and the Seahawks will face-off at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
