FH: Sauve's Two Goals Lead Hofstra Over Towson In CAA Play

Hempstead, NY- Pride junior Madison Sauve tallied two goals and one assist and the Pride defense did not allow a shot on goal as Hofstra blanked Towson, 4-0 in a Colonial Athletic Association contest at the Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Hofstra, which snapped a two-game losing skid, improved to 1-1 in the CAA and 6-7 overall. The Tigers of Towson, who dropped their second consecutive contest, fell to 0-2 in conference play and 1-11 overall.

Dutch freshman Anne van der Boomen opened the scoring for Hofstra on Sunday with her first collegiate goal off a pass from Sauve at the 10:02 mark. Sauve then scored back-to-back goals with a little help from her friends as another Dutch newcomer Philine de Wolf made the pass for her eighth goal of the season at the 12:15 mark, and from freshman Frankie O'Brien following a penalty corner at the 21:37 mark. The Pride outshot the Tigers, 12-2 in the first half and only senior Emilee Woodall's five saves in the first 35 minutes prevented the game from getting out of control.

O'Brien would add Hofstra's final tally of the day, her fourth of the year, off a pass to the center of the circle from another Dutch product, graduate-student Marloes Schavemaker at the 58:52 mark.

Hofstra returns to action on Friday, October 6 when the Pride travel to Massachusetts to face the Huskies of Northeastern University in a CAA match-up at Dedham Field. Game time is 6 p.m.
