Hannah Klemm posted 37 assists and 11 digs to lead the Hofstra Volleyball team to a convincing three-set sweep of James Madison on Friday evening at the David S. Mack Fitness Center.
Set scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22 in favor of Hofstra.
The win improves the Pride's record to 11-5 and 1-2 in Colonial Athletic Association action, while James Madison falls to 10-6 and 2-1 in league play.
Hofstra won the first set as Rucli powered the Pride offensively with five kills in the opening stanza. The Pride led the entire set as they held the Dukes to just an .033 attack percentage.
Similar to the opening stanza of the match, Hofstra once again jumped out early and never trailed in pushing its lead in the match to two sets to none. The Pride scored the first six points of the second set in dominating the Dukes in all facets of the match. Sophomore
Nanishka Perez posted five kills in the second set to lead the way for Hofstra.
The third set was the only set of the match where JMU managed to at least take a lead as the teams battled through four tie scores and one lead change before Hofstra took control. The Pride held a large late lead before the Dukes attempted to rally. Hofstra would hold off any thoughts of a James Madison rally as with the score 23-22 in favor of the Pride, a kill from Rucli and a kill from freshman
Laura Masciullo ended the match and gave Hofstra its first CAA win of the season.
Sophomore
Luisa Domingues posted 10 digs in the match with Perez adding eight kills and seven digs.
Taylor Gail led JMU with nine kills, while Tilbe Yaglioglu posted 16 assists and 10 digs.
Hofstra returns to action on Sunday when it hosts William & Mary at 1 p.m. It will be the Pride's final match this season in the David S. Mack Fitness Center before returning to their regular home of the Mack Physical Education Center.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 24-12 all-time against James Madison. The Dukes won both matches last season.
- With her 37 assists in the match, Klemm is now just five assists shy of 4,000 for her career.
- With her 11 kills in the match, Kostova is now just nine kills shy of 1,000 for her career.
