MSOC: Burst of Offense Lifts Hofstra Over College of Charleston

Hempstead, N.Y. – Junior Danny Elliott scored twice as the Hofstra Men's Soccer offense came to life in a 4-0 win over College of Charleston on Saturday night at James M. Shuart Stadium. Classmate Meshack Eshun Addy added his second of the season and sophomore Daniel Massey grabbed his first of the year as the Pride improved to 4-3-1 overall and picked up its second Colonial Athletic Association win in as many games.

Eshun Addy opened the scoring in the ninth minute, getting a through ball from Luke Brown and burying the shot into the lower right corner. Elliott then added his first of the day exactly six minutes later, streaking down the sideline before cutting to the middle and putting his shot into the upper left. Elliott's strike marked the first time this season the Pride had scored multiple goals in the first half.

With Hofstra up 2-0 to start the second half, the frame got off to a slow start, with minimal pressure from either side. Elliott then got things going again, however, putting away a shot from the middle of the 18-yard box in the 80th minute to take the team lead with four goals on the season. Massey then tacked on Hofstra's fourth tally just over two minutes later, directing in a pass from senior Jon Fraser.

All three of the Pride's goalkeepers saw time in the contest, but none had to make a save, as the Hofstra backline stifled Charleston (2-4-1, 0-1-1 CAA), holding the Cougars to seven shots with none on frame. Sophomore Leonard Arkhanhelskyi started the game, with classmate Alex Ashton taking over in the second half and fellow sophomore Brian Rubinaccio closing out the final 2:28. The Pride has now allowed just one goal in its past five games.

Hofstra continues conference play this week, heading to Northeastern on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. kickoff. The game will be broadcast live on American Sports Network.
