Las Vegas, NV – Senior
Veronika Kostova had a team-high 22 kills, but it wasn't enough as CSUN rallied from a two sets to none deficit to defeat the Hofstra Volleyball team on Friday afternoon at the UNLV Rebel Challenge.
Set scores were 23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-15 and 15-13 in favor of the Matadors.
Hofstra falls to 4-1 with the loss, while CSUN improved to 2-2 with the victory.
After a tight first set, Hofstra looked to have complete momentum in the contest as they captured a 25-19 victory in the second set to take the two sets to none lead in the contest.
It wasn't to be, though, as the Matadors used back-to-back commanding sets to knot the score at two and send the match to a decisive fifth set.
CSUN led 9-5 before back-to-back kills from Kostova brought he Pride to within 9-7. The Matadors would attempt to pull away again, as a service ace from Kristey Markle made in 12-7 in favor of CSUN.
Down by five, Hofstra used a 6-2 run to close the gap to one, 14-13, as a kill from sophomore
Nanishka Perez close the score to a single point. That would be as close as Hofstra would get, though, as Julie Haake ended the match with her 27th kill of the contest.
Perez and sophomore
Michela Rucli each finished with 11 kills for the Pride, while senior
Hannah Klemm tallied 38 assists and 12 digs. Perez added 11 digs, while sophomore
Luisa Domingues picked up a team-high 16 digs.
Haake finished with 27 kills for the Matadors, while Lauren Conati had 44 assists, seven digs and four blocks. Katie Sato led the way with 24 digs.
Hofstra is back in action this evening when it faces UNLV at 10 p.m. EST.
