Chestnut Hill, Mass. – Hofstra men's soccer outshot No. 11 Boston College, 21-12, but an early strike and a 90th-minute insurance goal gave the Eagles a 2-0 win over the Pride on Friday evening at Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field.
Neither team generated a shot until the 14th minute of play, when senior
Joseph Holland's strike off a corner kick had to be saved by Boston College goalkeeper Cedric Saladin.
BC's Simon Enstrom then put the Eagles ahead, 1-0, in the 17th minute, putting away Zeiko Lewis' rebound after Hofstra keeper
Leonard Arkhanhelskyi made the first save.
The Pride (1-2) had a pair of chances in the 22nd minute, with senior
Nino Alfonso's shot sailing wide before freshman
Adam Savill's first career shot was saved by Saladin. Despite being down by a goal, the Pride entered halftime with a 7-4 lead in shots over Boston College (3-0).
After Hofstra continued to pepper the Eagles' defense in the second half, taking 14 more shots, the BC's Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel slotted home a goal in the 90th to seal the game.
Holland led the way for the Pride with five shots, while freshman
Luke Brown was close behind with four. Freshmen accounted for nine of Hofstra's 21 shots.
Arkhanhelskyi made three saves in his first collegiate start.
The Pride continues its Boston-area road trip, heading to Harvard for a 4 p.m. matchup on Sunday.
