MSOC: Hofstra Blanks James Madison To Open CAA Play

Hempstead, N.Y. – Juniors Meshack Eshun Addy and Danny Elliott scored for Hofstra as the Pride picked up a 2-0 win over James Madison to open Colonial Athletic Association play Saturday night at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. Eshun Addy broke through in the 55th minute before Elliott tacked on an insurance goal in the 90th minute. The shutout victory marks Hofstra's third clean sheet in the past four games.

Hofstra (3-3-1, 1-0-0 CAA) dominated possession in the first half, putting up 10 shots to the Dukes' one. Freshman Luke Brown had an early chance, getting a head on a ball in the 18-yard box, but James Madison keeper Kyle Morton grabbed it. In the waning moments of the frame, Elliott and junior Jon Fraser went two-on-one with a James Madison defender, but Elliott's pass to Fraser was intercepted by Morton, leaving the teams scoreless at halftime.

Eshun Addy got the Pride on the board in the 55th minute on a service from Holland. Eshun Addy blasted a shot from near the top of the box over the hands of Morton. The strike was Eshun Addy's first goal of the season, while Holland picked up his second assist to lead the team with six points.

The Dukes (0-6-1, 0-1-0 CAA) began to press late in the second half, but the Hofstra backline held strong, with James Madison managing just one shot on goal on the day.

Elliott then sealed the game with 31 seconds left, getting a breakaway up the right wing and finishing into the low left corner for his second goal of the season.

Sophomores Leonard Arkhanhelskyi and Alex Ashton split time in net to earn the clean sheet. Hofstra has now allowed just one goal in its past four games, with No. 5 Syracuse being the only team to break through.

The Pride continues conference play at home next weekend, with College of Charleston making the trip to Hempstead for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday. As a result of preparations for the Presidential Debate, the game will be played at James M. Shuart Stadium.
