Sopron, Hungary--- Incoming Hofstra women's basketball freshman Ana Hernandez Gil has been named to Spain's 12-player roster for the U18 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) European Championship, which begins this weekend in Hungary.
 
A native of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Hernandez Gil helped Spain to third place at the U16 European Championship in 2014.
 
In addition, the 5-8 guard has helped her team to four Canary Islands championships and five national titles since 2012.

Spain enters the U18 European Championship ranking 12th in the 16-team field and will compete in Group C with Belgium, Serbia and Lithuania. The team will open the tournament with a matchup with Belgium on Sunday at Novomatic Arena II in Sopron.
