BB: Hofstra Ends 2016 Season With Doubleheader Loss To James Madison

Hempstead, NY - Brandon Withers and Michael Evans combined on a four-hitter in game one, and Colton Harlow and Ben Garner teamed up for a three-hit shutout in game two as James Madison swept a doubleheader from Hofstra Friday at University Field. The two wins completed a series sweep for the Dukes over the Pride.
 
James Madison improves to 23-29 overall and 13-11 in Colonial Athletic Association play as the Dukes head to next week's CAA Championship. Hofstra sees its season end with a record of 15-37, 5-18 in the CAA.
 
Withers (3-6) went six innings and allowed three hits and one run, which came on a Ryan Karl home run in the fifth. The home run made the score 4-1, before JMU scored five time s over the next three innings to pull away from the Pride. Evans allowed one hit over the final three frames to earn his fourth save of the season.
 
Mike Sciorra and Kyle Mcpherson each had three hits in the opener for the Dukes. Brett Johnson, Mcpherson, and Bradley McKay each drove in two runs in the game as well. McKay's two RBIs came on a seventh inning home run, his first of the season.
 
Vito Friscia, Max Dolente and Teddy Cillis had the other Hofstra hits, all singles. John Rooney (3-8) took the loss for the Pride, allowing four runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
 
In game two Harlow (3-6) allowed three hits over eight innings with seven strikeouts, while Garner pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to record the shutout.
 
McKay hit his second two-run home run of the day, a seventh inning shot that extended JMU's lead to 4-0. Bobby San Martin had three hits and an RBI, while Ky Parrot had two hits and an RBI as well.
 
Kevin O'Connor had a double for the Pride, while Brad Witkowski and Chris Hardardt contributed singles. Bowie Matteson (3-7) took the los after allowing five runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work. The senior righty did not walk a batter and struck out four in his final appearance.
 
In addition to Matteson, seven other Pride players – Karl, Chris Bonk, Brendan Mulligan, David Leiderman, Hardardt, Dave Jesch and Alec Eisenberg - were honored on Senior Day in a pregame ceremony.
