BB: Hofstra Drops Series Finale At UNCW

Wilmington, NC - David Leiderman was 3-5 with a solo home run and Chris Hardardt went 2-4 with a run scored in Hofstra's 18-4 loss at UNCW Sunday afternoon. The Seahawks completed the series sweep with the win.

Hofstra fell to 13-30 overall and 4-13 in Colonial Athletic Association play. UNCW is 31-10 overall and 11-2 in the league.

The Pride took a 1-0 lead in the first as Steven Foster singled, went to third on a single from Vito Friscia and scored on a wild pitch. The Seahawks responded with three in the bottom of the innings as a run scored on a throwing error and two more came in on Casey Golden's single.

UNCW broke open the game with an eight-run third inning to take an 11-1 lead. Golden had a two-run double and Gavin Stupienski drove in two with a single.

Teddy Cillis had an RBI single for Hofstra in the fourth and Brad Witkowski added a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 11-3. UNCW got both runs back in the bottom of the inning and then added a run in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the eighth to close out the scoring. Leiderman had a solo home run in the top of the seventh, his fifth of the season.

Cory Gantz (4-0) picked up the win for the Seahawks, allowing seven hits in six innings. Bowie Matteson (3-5) took the loss for Hofstra after allowing 10 runs (6 earned) on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Hofstra will return to action Friday when it hosts Northeastern at 3 p.m.
