BB: Hofstra Swept By Delaware In CAA Doubleheader

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra homered three times over the course of the doubleheader, but Delaware recorded 33 hits on the afternoon in sweeping the Pride in Colonial Athletic Association action Friday afternoon at University Field. Delaware won game one, 8-4, and took game two, 13-3.
 
Delaware improved to 20-11 on the season and 3-5 in the CAA with the wins. Hofstra fell to 8-23, 1-6 in league play.
 
In game one Delaware snapped a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning, scoring three times. Nick Patten led off with a single and moved to third on a double from Diaz Nardo. Jeremy Ake followed with a two-run single to snap the tie. Ake would later score on a sacrifice fly from Kevin Mohollen.
 
The Pride got within 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth as Steven Foster tripled and scored on a wild pitch, but Nick Tierno had an RBI double and Nardo added an RBI single in the ninth to make it a four-run lead and the Pride would not score in the bottom of the ninth.
 
Foster, Brad Witkowski and Teddy Cillis all had three hits for the Pride with Cillis blasting a two-run home run in the third. The home run was his team-best sixth of the year.
 
Ron Marinaccio (6-1) picked up his league-high sixth win of the season, allowing eight hits and three runs in 5 1/3 innings. Chris Weiss (1-3) took the loss after allowing six runs (five earned0 on nine hits in five innings.
 
In the nightcap, the Blue Hens scored two runs in each of the first three innings and then had a six-run seventh to put the contest far out of reach. Delaware had 20 hits in the game, while the pride managed just four.
 
Adam Rapp had a two-run home run in the second inning that extended the Delaware lead to 4-1. He would later drive in a run on a fielder's choice. Kyle Baker recorded four hits in the game for Delaware, while Nardo and Ake each tallied three hits.
 
Hofstra got solo home runs from Mat Anunnziata and Max Dolente, the latter's first career round tripper. Vito Friscia had a sacrifice fly to account for Hofstra's other run.
 
Kyle Hinton (2-0), making an emergency start in place of scheduled starter Brandon Walter (illness) went five innings and allowed two runs on three hits. Burk FitzPatrick threw the final four frames to notch his second save of the season.
 
Bowie Matteson (2-3) took the loss, allowing 13 hits and seven runs (six earned) in five innings.
 
The teams will complete the series Sunday at 1 p.m.
