BB: Late Rally Lifts Delaware Past Hofstra In Series Finale

Hempstead, NY – David Leiderman had two of Hofstra's four hits including a solo home run that tied the score at three in the sixth and drove in a pair of runs, but Delaware scored five runs over the final three innings to post an 8-4 victory over the Pride and complete a three-game sweep.

Hofstra fell to 8-24 on the season overall and 1-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the loss. Delaware moves to 21-11 and 4-5 in league play.

Delaware took a 2-0 lead in the second on a solo home run from Nick Patten and a run scoring on a wild pitch. The Pride would tie the score in the fourth on an RBI double from Brad Witkowski, who moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error.

The Blue Hens would go up, 3-2, in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Diaz Nardo, but Leiderman tied the score in the sixth with a leadoff home run to left. The lead was short-lived as back-to-back doubles from Nick Tierno and Jordan Glover plated one run and Glover would eventually score on a wild pitch to make it a 5-3 game.

Leiderman doubled in a run in the eighth to make it a 5-4 game, but Delaware would use three doubles in the ninth to score three more times to put the game out of reach.

Brandon Walter started for Delaware and allowed just two hits over 5 2/3 innings but did not factor in the decision.  Nick Spadafino (3-2) pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win, allowing a run on one hit. Coleman Vila pitched two scoreless innings to notch his fourth save.

Chris Bonk (1-3), the second of five Pride pitchers, took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 1 2/3 innings of relief. John Rooney started for the Pride and allowed three runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Steven Foster had Hofstra's fourth hit, a double in the ninth.

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday when it hosts NYIT at 3 p.m.
