BB: Witkowski's Two Home Runs Power Pride Past Saint Peter's

Jersey City, NJ – Brad Witkowski hit two home runs and drove in three runs and Mat Annunziata had two hits and four RBIs as Hofstra defeated Saint Peter's Wednesday evening at Jaroschak Field.

Hofstra moved to 8-21 on the season with the win, while the Peacocks fell to 4-20 with their 12th straight loss.

Hofstra opened the scoring in the second; loading the bases with one out before Kevin O'Connor drew a walk to force in the first run. After an infield pop-up, Annunziata cleared the bases with a three-run double. The Peacocks took advantage of two Pride errors in their half of the inning to get a run back on a sacrifice fly.

The teams traded runs in the third with Vito Friscia hitting a home run for the Pride and Nick Ciocco driving in a run for Saint Peter's. But the Pride broke things open with a three-run fourth with Annunziata driving in his fourth run with an infield single and Witkowski following with a two-run homer to make it an 8-2 lead for the Pride.

Witkwoski would add his second home run in the sixth, a solo blast that made it 9-2 in favor of Hofstra. The Peacocks would put two runs on the board in the seventh, but the Pride got those runs right back in the eighth on a two-run single from Chris Hardardt that closed out the scoring.

Teddy Cillis (1-0) earned his first win for the Pride, allowing one unearned run in two innings of work. Nicholas Arre (0-2) took the loss for Saint Peter's after allowing eight runs on nine hits in four innings.

The game marked the end of nine consecutive road games for the Pride, who returns home to host Delaware in a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series starting Friday at 3 p.m.
