Towson, MD -
Vito Friscia had a two-run single in the eighth inning to account for the Hofstra runs, but the Pride dropped the rubber game of a three-game series at Towson , 4-2, Sunday at Schuerholz Park.
Hofstra fell to 7-21, 1-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play. The Tigers improved to 11-17 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The Tigers scored twice in the fourth as Chris Henze singled home Colin Gimblet. After a passed ball put runners on second and third, Hofstra pitcher
John Rooney balked in the second run. Towson would tack on an insurance run in the fifth as Brady Policelli delivered a two-out RBI single that plated Jay Sanford.
The Pride got things going in the eighth as
Kevin O'Connor led off with a bunt single.
Steven Foster followed with a fielder's choice grounder that was misplayed by the Tigers, putting runners on the corners.
Mat Annunziata reached on an infield single to load the bases. After a foul out for the first out of the inning, Friscia followed with a two-run single to put the Pride on the board. But that was all the offense the Pride would muster as an infield fly and a ground out ended the rally.
Towson scored its fourth run in the eighth on a wild pitch. Kevin Ross (2-3) earned the win for the Tigers after allowing an unearned run on four hits in seven innings.
Rooney (1-4) took the loss for the Pride after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits in six innings. Annunziata had two hits in three at-bats for the Pride.
Hofstra returns to action Wednesday at Saint Peter's. Game time in Jersey City is 3:30 p.m.Â
