WLAX: Hofstra Defeated By Elon On Senior Day

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 12-5 decision to Elon in the squad's home finale on Sunday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.

Hofstra got a pair of goals from graduate attacker Lindsay Scott, while junior attacker Morgan Knox and freshman attacker Lexi Lenaghan each posted two assists in the contest. 

The game was the final one at Shuart Stadium for the Pride's four seniors: Lindsey Alfano, Becky Conto, Shelby Milne and Scott. 

The loss drops Hofstra's record to 3-12 overall and 1-4 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Elon improved to 10-5 and 3-2 in the league. 

Elon took a two-goal lead into the halftime break as Sloane Kessler posted three first half points on two goals and an assist. 

Hofstra got early goals from sophomore midfielder Drew Shapiro and junior attacker Tiana Parrella to lead 2-1 less than four minutes into the contest. 

After Elon scored back-to-back goals, Scott notched her first of the game to even the score at three with 21:44 left before intermission. 

Scott would score her second of the game later in the stanza to close the score to 5-4 before Elon found the back of the net twice over the next seven minutes to lead by three goals. Sophomore midfielder Carlee Ancona would close the first half scoring with her eighth of the season off an assist from Lenaghan with 2:10 left in the first half. 

Elon would take a commanding 10-5 lead with three goals in the first eight minutes of the second half as Shelby Scanlin, Kessler and Maeve Cowley scored for the Phoenix. 

Senior defender Shelby Milne posted three ground balls and two caused turnovers for Hofstra, while sophomore midfielder Carolyn Carrera had four draw controls. 

Kessler finished with six points on three goals and three assist for Elon, while Rachel Ramirez had five saves and four ground balls. Alexis Zadjura tallied four draw controls and three ground balls for the Phoenix. 

Hofstra will conclude the 2016 regular season next Saturday when it travels to Philadelphia to take on Drexel. First draw control is scheduled for 4 p.m. 

NOTES
- Hofstra is 1-1 all-time against Elon. 
- With her two goals in the game, Scott now has 51 this season to rank second in program history for goals in a single season. She trails Kathleen Mikowski (2003) by six goals for the top spot. 
- Carrera has 54 draw controls this season to rank eighth on the single season chart. 
- Milne moved into a tie for sixth in program history with 70 career caused turnovers.
