Lindsay Scott had six goals and freshman goalie
Maddie Fields posted nine saves in net to lead the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team to an 11-9 victory over Columbia on Saturday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Scott fell one goal shy of her career-high in leading the Pride to the win, while Fields posted a new season-high in saves.
Hofstra improved to 2-7 with the win, while Columbia falls to 5-6 with the loss.
Lindsey Ewertsen led the Lions with three goals.
Hofstra jumped all over Columbia to start as the Pride scored the first four goals to lead 4-0 with 13:20 left before intermission. The Pride got goals from four different players during the run, including Scott opening the scoring with a free-position goal just under five minutes into the contest.
Columbia immediately responded, though, and scored five consecutive goals to lead 5-4 following a goal from Taylor Quinn.
The Pride was able to knot the score headed into the break as Scott scored an unassisted tally with 2:46 left to make it 5-5 at halftime.
The game was tied at six before Hofstra got back-to-back goals from sophomore midfielder
Drew Shapiro and Scott to make it 8-6 with 24:52 to play in regulation.
Columbia once again rallied and the game would be even at nine before Shapiro came up huge and tallied an unassisted goal with 11:19 left to put the Pride in front for good. Scott would add an insurance goal for Hofstra with 8:29 to play as the Pride held Columbia scoreless for the final 17 minutes of the contest.

Elena Schorr posted four ground balls for the Pride, while senior midfielder
Becky Conto had four draw controls, a goal and a caused turnover. Fields added a pair of ground balls. Junior attacker
Morgan Knox notched three points (one goal, two assists), along with three ground balls.
Victoria Kalamaras had three points (one goal, two assists), while Laine Parsons added five ground balls, two draw controls and two goals for Columbia.
Hofstra returns to action on Friday, April 8 when it opens Colonial Athletic Association play at William & Mary. First draw control is scheduled for 6 p.m.
NOTES- Today marked the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Columbia in women's lacrosse.
- The four ground balls by Schorr established a new career-high. She previously had two against Harvard earlier this season.
- The nine saves by Fields broke her previous high of five, last against Fairfield.
