Hempstead, NY – Samantha Brookhart had a goal and three assists to lead #18 Towson to a 9-3 victory over the Hofstra Women's Lacrosse team on Friday evening at James M. Shuart Stadium.
The game was a defensive battle over the first 43 minutes as the two squads combined for just three goals, with Towson scoring twice in the first half and Hofstra answering first in the second half.
Junior goalie
Alexis Greene starred for Hofstra as she had a career-high 12 saves in the contest.
The loss drops the Pride's record to 3-9 overall and 1-2 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Towson improved to 10-2 and 3-0 in league action.
Towson took a 2-0 lead into halftime as the Tigers got goals from Brookhart at the 20:52 mark and Jenna Kerr added the second tally with 9:07 remaining in the opening stanza.
Hofstra would be the first team to find the back of the net in the second stanza as freshman attacker
Lexi Lenaghan scored off an assist from sophomore midfielder
Carlee Ancona to make it 2-1 with 17:16 left in regulation.
The Tigers would push the lead to 4-1 with goals from Natalie Sulmonte and Kaitlyn Montabano before graduate attacker
Lindsay Scott scored her first of the game with 11:41 remaining to make it 4-2.
That would be as close as the Pride was able to get, though, as Towson pushed the lead to 6-2 with under six minutes remaining to take the commanding four-goal advantage. That goal would force a Pride timeout. The lead was four at that point and the Tigers went on to capture the six-goal victory.
Senior defender
Shelby Milne and sophomore defender
Elena Schorr each had three ground balls for Hofstra. Milne also tied for game-high honors with two caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder
Carolyn Carrera posted three of the Pride's five draw controls in the game.
Montalbano led Towson with three goals and added four draw controls, three ground balls and a goal. Angie Benson had six saves for the Tigers.
Hofstra is back in action on Sunday when it hosts Delaware at 1 p.m.
